In devotion this morning, I read through Psalm 37. Although it was a lengthy read, there was a pattern that I began to notice by verse 18, “Day by day the Lord takes care of the innocent.” According to biblestudytools.com, the word innocent defines the “absence of guilt of disloyalty to God.” A person that does not abandon God as their savior but instead clings to God in full dependence and seeks after his righteousness - innocent. Throughout the chapter, I could see how David made the contrast between the wicked (those who are disloyal to God) and the innocent. David showed examples of how the wicked would come to ruins in contrast to the prosperity of the godly.
I love when David wrote Psalm 37: 31, “They have made God’s law their own, so they will never slip from his path.” The godly are those who remain faithful to the words of G0d and meditate on them day and night. The godly tie God’s word around their necks and it is written on their heart so that they may not sin against God (Jeremiah 31:33).
The point is, there should be no other place we want to be than in relationship with God. In God comes peace, prosperity, blessing, and fellowship. God protects his people that remain in Him. God does not wish for any of us to perish but to have eternal life which can only be given when we are in right-standing with Him. I pray today that you would choose to remain loyal to God no matter the storm and/or temptations you are faced with. May you seek to grow closer to God and in God your relationship deepens, in Jesus name, amen.
