Last night, I watched a reel on Joyce Meyer's Instagram. Joyce Meyer said, "you can get as close to God as you want to". Isn't that refreshing to hear? Something about that quote was refreshing and reassuring for me. Knowing that I can be as close to God as I desire is comforting. Nothing is stopping me from being in his presence and coming closer to Him.
How to get closer to God
This morning's devotional from 'My Upmost For His Highest' made me realize that connection to God comes from meditating on his promises. Matthew 13:22 explains that the cares of life can choke out the word of God but meditating on the word of God brings about growth. Psalms 1:2-3 backs up this truth with the tree that is planted by the river. Remember, the word of God is like a seed planted in the ground and just like a seed that needs water to grow, so does the word of God. The word of God, grows as we meditate on it day and night as Psalm 1:3 stated, "like a tree planted by the river...you will bear fruit". Our meditation, memorization, and pondering on God's promises draws us closer to Him because we are relying on Him more and more. So, we only have two adversaries that would keep us from drawing closer to God: you and the devil. Yes, we are our own worst enemy when it comes to spending time with God. We allow the cares of life to take our attention off of God and the devil does the same with temptations and distractions. Your position is to remain focused on God. Focus on God's promises and let Him lead your life.
