Spiritual Dullness is a state that anyone can fall into. Unbelievers walk around in complete ignorance and believers can become spiritually dull if they choose to ignore the voice of God. Listen, the enemy is always looking to find someone who is spiritually dull so that he can destroy them. Knowledge is power and knowing what spiritual dullness is can prevent you from falling into that state.
What is Spiritual Dullness?
"Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him."
Ephesians 4:18
In this scripture, Paul was referring to the unbelievers that willfully chose to close their minds and hearts to the voice of God. Paul low-key defined spiritual dullness in this verse by identifying that their minds were full of darkness. When you hear the word "darkness" what do you automatically think of? Hopefully, the words "evil and sin" are in your line up. Now put it into context with the text. Paul is saying that a person whose mind is filled or consumed with darkness (evil or sin) is a mind that wanders far from God. Consider yourself, is your mind filled with darkness? Have you wandered away from God because of sin? Note: a person that dwells in sin will end up with a heart hardened against God.
How can Spiritual Dullness develop?
"They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity. "
Ephesians 4:19
For the person who believes in Jesus but chooses to please their own desires over the desires of the spirit, they are building a space between them and
God. Satisfying the desires of the flesh and conforming back to your old nature is a sure way to become spiritually dull. Let me tell you, being spiritually dull is to ignore when God is speaking to you and the Lord speaks through the word and with a quiet still voice. Sin can become so loud if we allow it to rule our lives. Whatever we feed will grow and feeding sin can result in it becoming your master (Rom. 6:16). Look at Solomon ( 1 Kings 11:1-10), Solomon chose to disobey God (a sin), satisfy his own desires (a sin), and worship false gods ( a SIN). Solomon's sin led to him refusing to obey and follow the voice of God, could you imagine. The same God that gave Solomon all of that wisdom! Smh. Solomon's spiritual dullness is a direct reflection of Ephesians 4;18, "closing his mind and hardening his heart against God".
I encourage you today,
Don't be like Solomon by fulfilling the desires of your flesh, it leads to Spiritual Dullness. Spiritual Dullness ruins your communication with God and hinders you from hearing his voice.
